EU Officials Decry US Action as ‘Intimidation’
European leaders such as the French president charged Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, following the visa restrictions were placed on individuals who have been central to efforts to introduce laws regulating American tech companies.
“For far too long, European activists have led coordinated campaigns to coerce US companies to suppress US perspectives they oppose,” wrote the US secretary of state in a social media post. “This government will no longer tolerate such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”

The restrictions were imposed on Tuesday on an ex-European commissioner involved in crafting the bloc’s digital governance law, as well as several anti-disinformation campaigners, from Germany and the United Kingdom.
